First Visit at Janzen & Chwa Orthodontics
We’re excited to welcome you to Janzen & Chwa Orthodontics! From the moment you arrive, our friendly team will guide you through every step of your first appointment. Please check in with our receptionist, and then you’ll meet Drs. Kyint and Evan Chwa will complete a thorough orthodontic exam and explain all treatment options in a clear, one-on-one conversation with you and your family. Our goal is to give you the healthy, straight, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted, using the latest technology and safe, gentle care tailored just for you.
Why the First Orthodontist Consultation Matters?
The initial exam is designed to give you clarity and answers. During this visit, we’ll:
Review your dental and medical history
Provide a complete oral exam with X-rays to determine whether treatment is necessary
Help you create a customized treatment plan
Discuss all treatment options, including braces, Invisalign®, or other appliances
Explain financial information, insurance options, and payment plans
By the end of the visit, you’ll have a roadmap for achieving a healthy, confident smile.
What Happens After the First Exam?
If treatment is recommended, we’ll schedule an appointment for diagnostic records. In many cases, we can even collect these records during your first visit if time allows. Diagnostic records help us design a personalized treatment plan and usually include:
Photographs of your teeth
Study models of your teeth
Panoramic and cephalogram X-rays and tracings
A detailed analysis by the doctor to determine the best course of care
Case Presentation and Starting Treatment
After reviewing your records, your doctor will present your customized treatment plan at your next appointment. Once you approve the plan, we’ll schedule your first treatment appointment, where your new braces or appliances will be placed. This appointment generally takes 30–60 minutes, and our team will make sure you’re as comfortable as possible.
Visiting the Orthodontist During Treatment
Regular visits every 4–8 weeks are important for keeping your treatment on track. We’ll work with you to schedule appointments that fit your family’s schedule. Life happens, so if you’re running late or need to reschedule, just let us know, and we’ll accommodate you.
It’s also important to continue seeing your family dentist every six months for cleanings and routine checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we’ll coordinate with your dentist to ensure you’re getting the best care possible.
